October 24-28, 2016

Academics
In Reading, we’ll continue with Unit 2, Look at Us!  Our next story will be another nonfiction selection, Nature Spy.  In this book, a little girl shares tips on how to explore the wonders of the natural world.  We will focus on the letter Ss in the initial and final position of words.  Our literary skill for the week will be setting.

In Math, we’ll finish Topic 16: Analyze, Compare and Compose Shapes.  We will begin Topic 1: One to Five.  Students will learn how to read, write, and count numbers One to Five.  Please practice writing numbers 1-5 at home.

Next week we’ll continue with our pumpkin theme and we’ll also incorporate some Halloween fun!

Picture Retakes
If your child was absent or you were not happy with their school pictures, retakes will be done on October 25th.

Party Money
We are collecting $5 for the parties that will be held in Kindergarten this year.  Please send this in as soon as possible.  Thank you to the parents who already gave their donations.

 Red Ribbon Week
We’ll be celebrating Red Ribbon Week at NSE October 24-28th.  There will be a theme for each day.  The themes are:
10/24 Monday: No Sweat Day (wear sweats) 10/25 Tuesday: Crazy Socks Day
10/26 Wednesday: Wear your clothes backwards 10/27 Thursday: Crazy Hair Day
10/28 Friday: NS Spirit Day

Halloween Parade
On Friday, October 28th, family and friends are invited to attend the school-wide Halloween Parade.  The parade will be held at Spartan Stadium!  The parade will begin promptly at 2:00 with Kindergarten leading!  Students will parade in front of the HOME side bleachers.  Students should not wear their costumes to school on Friday.  Please send your child’s costume to school in a plastic bag.  We ask that the costumes aren't too scary and please keep anything that can be considered a weapon at home.  Due to the recent concerns, clown costumes are NOT allowed!  Try to keep costumes simple!  We have a lot of kids to get dressed in a short period of time.

Field Trip
The Kindergarten Field trip to see the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble present Every Christmas Every Told (and then some) will be on Friday, December 1st.  Please return your child’s blue field trip form if you haven’t done so already.
