October 19-23, 2015

This week, our new letter will be Hh as in hat, hammer, and Halloween!  Show and Tell bags will be sent home and are due back on Friday.  Keep reviewing the letters L, O, G, H and their sounds at home.

In Math we’ll continue with Topic 15, Position and Location of Shapes.  Our essential question is “What words can be used to describe the position and location of an object?”

In Reading, we’ll begin our next Reading story, “Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip with Kindergarten.”  We will be learning about Community Helpers.  Our essential question will be “How do people in a community cooperate?”  We will discuss the literary element, classify and categorize.  We will continue to practice Sight Words.  Be sure to watch your child’s folder to see if they are moving on to the next word list or if they need to continue with their current list!  Sight Words will be tested again on Friday, October 23rd.

Friday, November 13th will be the Kindergarten Field Trip!  This year, we will be going to the Pearl Movie Theater in Frackville to see “The Peanuts Movie.”  Please return your child’s permission slip as soon as possible!

The Scholastic Book Fair will be at NSE Monday, October 19th- 23rd.  Families are invited to come shop with their child on Monday (10/19) from 4-7 pm.  Our class will shop in school on Tuesday, October 20th.  If you are sending money to school for the book fair please make sure it is in an envelope with your child’s name, my name, and “Book Fair” on it.  School store will be closed this week due to the Book Fair!

On Monday, October 16th at 7:00, there will be an informative meeting in the NSE Cafeteria regarding the fall festival. If you are interested in volunteering, you are encouraged to attend.  Volunteers are needed from 8:00-1:00 for the festival.

In order to help pay for parties and events held throughout the year, every student is asked to bring in $5.  Please put the money in an envelope and make sure it is labeled with your child’s name, my name, and Party Money.

On Tuesday, we will have Library.  Students should bring their books to school so they can exchange it for a new one
Some students still do not know their 4 digit numbers!  These numbers are used for lunch, library, computer class, etc.  It is very important that your child learn their number!  Every child’s number is on the front of the folder.  Please practice at home!

Now that the weather is getting cooler, please make sure that your child is dressing appropriate for outside recess!

PTO Fall fundraisers are due no later than Friday, October 23rd.  Due to time restraints, anything handed in after that will not be accepted.
