January 19-23, 2015

Monday, January 19th will be a snow make up day!!!
School will be in session for students!
Lunch will be Chicken Sticks or Meatball Hoagie

Next week in Phonics, we’ll move on to the letter Mm, as in monkey, money, and mouse. Please continue to practice all of the letters that we’ve learned (L, O, G, H, T, P, A, N.) We’ll have Show and Tell for the letter Mm on Friday!

In Math, we will continue to work with Geoboards. We’ll learn about a new patter, ABB and we’ll also learn about a new coin, the dime!

This week in Reading we started reading The Little School Bus. With a frog as the driver, a variety of animals trickle onto the little school bus! First, "a little goat wearing his new winter coat" appears, then "a pig in a wig" gets on, and others follow until, finally, "a sleepy sheep" climbs aboard. At the end of the day, they return in reverse order for the ride home. We’ll continue to discuss ordinal numbers and learn about the characters in a story. Students will be reintroduced to the sight word I and also learn a new sight word, am! Sight word sticker books will be in your child’s folder on Monday. Feel free to use these books to practice at home but put them back in the folder when you’re done.

Kindergarten students took the DIBELS this week and I was THRILLED with the results. So many students have shown SO much growth since the beginning of the year! I would like to thank all of the parents that have been completing the DIBELS homework and also the Letter Naming Fluency homework with their children! I will be sending the scores home with report cards so you can see your child’s scores!!

Due to snow days, the last day of the Marking Period will be January 20th. Report cards will be sent home January 29th.

We had our monthly guidance lesson this morning with Mrs. Hull. She talked to students about “Jump Rope for Hearts.” Please check your child’s folder today for more information.

Scholastic book orders are due Friday, January 23rd.

Just a reminder, in January and February any student that has 3 or more red and/ or yellow stoplights will not participate in the monthly reward for the school wide positive behavior plan.

Our school store reopened this week! Just a reminder, Kindergarten students may shop on Mondays only!
