January 12-16, 2015

Monday, January 19th will be a snow make up day!!!
School will be in session for students!

This week in Phonics, we’ll continue with the letter Nn as in nest, nap, and napkin. Please continue to practice all of the letters that we’ve learned (L, O, G, H, T, P, A, N.) Next week we’ll find Environmental Print that begins with N. Print will be due on Friday.

In Math, we’ll continue to practice classifying and making shapes with Geobands and Geoboards. Our new topics for the week will be counting by tens and cubes!

In Reading this week, we’ll begin using Reading Street Common Core- Kindergarten Edition. Our first story will be The Little School Bus. With a frog as the driver, a variety of animals trickle onto the little school bus! First, "a little goat wearing his new winter coat" appears, then "a pig in a wig" gets on, and others follow until, finally, "a sleepy sheep" climbs aboard. At the end of the day, they return in reverse order for the ride home.  Since this is our first story using the Kindergarten curriculum, we'll spend 2 weeks on it to give students time to adjust to the new series!  We’ll discuss ordinal numbers while reading the book! Students will learn about characters!

Please be sure to follow the weekly homework note that I send home. Some students have not been completing all of their homework since we returned from break. Also, please be sure to complete the front and back of the reading logs for the book bags.

Just a reminder, in January and February any student that has 3 or more red and/ or yellow stoplights will not participate in the monthly reward for the school wide positive behavior plan.

Our school store reopened today! Just a reminder, Kindergarten students may shop on Mondays only!

It’s time to start preparing for NSE’s 2nd annual Chinese Auction! The auction will be held at NSE this year!! On Saturday April 11th you may “Shop and Drop” from 10:30 to 5:00 and on Sunday April 12th you can do the same from 12:00-3:00. The auction will start promptly at 3:00.
