October 6-10, 2014

Next week we’ll finish learning about the consonant Gg and its sound as in goat, gum, and gold!  We will have Show and Tell for the Letter Gg next week.  Show and Tell bags will be sent home on Monday.  Please review the letters L, O, G and their sounds at home.

In Math, our new topic will be AB patterns.  We will also practice acting out story problems.

In Reading, we will continue with Unit 2, Meet My Family.  Our Big Question for the week will be “How do family members care for one another?”  We’ll be reading the book, Oonga Boonga.  Since next week is a short week, we will take 2 weeks to complete this story.  Students will be learning about sequence.  We will also practice onset and rime.

Next week, our theme will be Fire Prevention.

On Monday, we will have our monthly Guidance Lesson with Mrs. Hull.

Thursday, October 9th, is the Kindergarten Fall Festival.  Watch for the Fall Festival reminder note that will come home early next week with important information about the festival.

Next week, the Scholastic Book Fair will be at NSE.  We will be shopping on Tuesday during our Library class.  If your child will be shopping at the Book Fair, please send money in an envelope labeled “Book Fair” on Tuesday.  There will be no book exchange next week.

October Book Orders are being sent home today.  They are due Friday, October 10th!

Reminder: Friday, October 10th, is a half day for students (dismissal is at 11:45) and there is NO SCHOOL for students on Monday, October 13th.

If you were not happy with your child’s school pictures or if your child was absent, retakes will be done on October 23rd.

Kindergarteners may shop at the School Store on Mondays.  Students do NOT come to the classroom before shopping so it’s important that you explain to your child where their money is and that they need to stop before coming to our room.

Don’t forget to return your child’s Library book on Tuesday so they can get a new book!
