September 29- October 3, 2014

This week, we were so busy learning about the vowel Oo that we didn’t get to start Gg! So next week we’ll start the consonant Gg and learn about its sound as in goat, gum, and gold! Please review the letters L, O, G and their sounds at home.

In Math, we’ll practice ordering and counting numbers 1-5. We will also work on graphing and identifying most and least on a graph.

In Reading, we are going to start Unit 2, Meet My Family. Our Big Question for the week will be “Who is in our families?” We’ll be reading the book, Quinto, Day and Night. Students will learn about characters.

Please send in your child’s $4.00 donation for the Fall Festival as soon as possible, if you haven’t done so already! The money is needed to buy supplies to make the day extra special for our Kindergarten students. The Fall Festival will be held on Thursday, October 9th. There will be a meeting for any parents, or grandparents that would like to help on Tuesday, September 30th at 6:30 at the Mineshaft in Ashland.

This week, our theme was Apples! We talked about Johnny Appleseed and learned lots of interesting facts about him. We sampled 3 different kinds of apples and then graphed our favorites! Today we used all the apples that our class brought in to make applesauce! Thank you to all the parents that sent in apples!

Kindergarten students will get their hearing tested on Tuesday, September 30th.

If you were not happy with your child’s school pictures or if your child was absent, retakes will be done on October 23rd.

Kindergarteners may shop at the School Store on Mondays. Students do NOT come to the classroom before shopping so it’s important that you explain to your child where their money is and that they need to stop before coming to our room.

Students are doing a great job with memorizing their 4 digit numbers! Thank you!

Spirit Week 2014 starts on Monday, September 29th. It’s a chance for all of “Spartan Nation” to show their pride and celebrate Homecoming 2014 at North Schuylkill. If your child is participating in Spirit Week Days, make sure their outfit is appropriate for the day. Otherwise, students should be wearing standard Dress Code attire. On Friday, we’ll have a Pep Rally to get everyone excited for Friday night’s football game!
