September 22-26

Next week, we’ll finish learning about the vowel Oo and move on to the consonant Gg! Please review the letters L, O, G and their sounds.

In Math, we’ll continue to practice counting from 1-5. We’ll also review AB patterns and acting out story problems. Our new topic for the week will be ordinal positions. Students will also focus on writing the numbers 2, 3, and 4.

In Reading, we’ll read Matthew and Tilly. We’ll talk about how friends get along. Students will learn about capital and lowercase letters and blending and segmenting words. We’ll also continue to work on drawing conclusions.

Our theme next week will be apples! We will talk about Johnny Appleseed and learn lots of interesting facts about him. We will sample different kinds of apples and then graph our favorites. I’m asking that each child bring in 1 apple next week! We’ll use all of the apples and work together to make applesauce on Friday!

The Kindergarten Fall Festival will be held on Thursday, October 9th. We are asking that each child please give $4.00 for the Fall Festival! The money is needed to buy supplies to make the day extra special for our Kindergarten students.

We are also looking for more adults to volunteer to help the day of the festival! There are only 13 adults that are available to come in that day! Just a reminder, the Fall Festival is not a PTO event so anyone who has clearances may help! The committee has set up a Facebook Page (North Schuylkill 2014 Fall Festival) and also an email address (NSfallfestival2014@hotmail.com.) If you’re interested, send an email to that address and you will be added to the list to receive all updates about the Fall Festival! Please let us know as soon as possible if you are able to help!

The School Store will open on Monday, September 22nd. Kindergarteners may only shop on Mondays. Students do NOT come to the classroom before shopping so it’s important that you explain to your child where their money is and that they need to stop before coming to our room.

Some students still do not know their 4 digit numbers! These numbers are used for lunch, library, computer class, etc. It is very important that your child learn their number! Every child’s number is on the front of the folder. Please practice at home!

On Monday, September 22nd, we will have an intruder drill at North Schuylkill Elementary. Please remind your child that it is crucial that they listen to their teacher during this drill.
