January 21-24, 2014

Next week in Phonics, we will continue to learn the letter A as in apple, alligator, and ant.  Please continue to review the letter flashcards in your child’s folder.  Show and Tell bags are coming home today.  Please return them on Friday.

In Math, we will review numbers 0-10, and ABB patterns.  We’ll also continue to learn about the dime!

In Reading, we’ll finish up Unit 2 and read “Whose Garden is It?”  The gardener says the garden belongs to him but the woodchuck insists that it's his!  And so do the rabbit, the butterfly, the squash bug, and the bumblebee!  Even the tiny seeds and whistling weeds think the garden just couldn't grow without them.   As they stroll through the plants and flowers, Mrs. McGee and her child listen and wonder: Whose garden is it?  We will be discussing gardens.  Students will learn about realism and fantasy.

We have been trying to get outside for recess whenever possible.  PLEASE make sure your child is dressing appropriately for the weather!  Hats, scarves, gloves, and heavy coats are a must!

The 2nd marking period will end this week.  Report cards will be sent home Friday, January 24th.

Since we are now starting the 2nd half of the school year, you might want to consider sending a new art shirt and change of clothes for your child to keep in their cubby.  If you send in new items, I’ll send home the items that are currently in their cubby.
