February 3-7, 2014

Next week in Phonics, we will continue to learn about the letter Mm as in mouse, mop, and monkey.  Please continue to review the letter flashcards in your child’s folder.

In Math, we’ll be practicing numbers 1-10, counting on, sorting, and problem solving.

In Reading, we’ll continue with Unit 3, Changes All Around Us.  We will be reading “Little Quack.”  We’ll be discussing doing new things and learning about the story element, setting.

Next week, we’ll discuss the outcomes of the Super Bowl and Groundhog Day to see whose predictions were right.  We’ll also start a new theme, the Olympics!  On Friday, February 7th we’ll celebrate the start of the 2014 Olympics with our own mini Olympics with Mrs. Borden’s class!

Tuesday, February 4th is the 100th day of school!  We’ll be doing lots of fun activities to celebrate the special day.  Please be sure to send your child’s Super Hero Cape to school on Tuesday.  Students should NOT wear the cape to school.

February is Dental Health Month!  Please complete the toothbrush chart that is in your child’s folder today and return it at the end of the month.  Students who return the chart will get a special treat!

We have been trying to get outside for recess whenever possible.  PLEASE make sure your child is dressing appropriately for the weather!  Hats, scarves, gloves, and heavy coats are a must!

If you haven’t returned your child’s report card already please do so by Monday, February 3rd.

Since we are now in the 2nd half of the school year, you might want to consider sending a new art shirt and change of clothes for your child to keep in their cubby.  If you send in new items, I’ll send home the items that are currently in their cubby.

Valentine’s Day parties will be held on Thursday, February 13th.  Please do not send in valentines before February 10th.
