This week, we’ll finish learn about the vowel Oo and its short sound, like in octopus, otter, and owl. Please continue to review L and O at home. Everyone is doing a great job with these 2 letters! I’m very proud of every student’s hard work!
In Math, we’ll continue to practice counting from 1-5. We’ll also review AB patterns and acting out story problems. Our new topic for the week will be ordinal positions. Students will also focus on writing the numbers 2, 3, and 4.
In Reading, we’ll read the story, “Julius.” This book is about a little girl named Maya's whose Granddaddy brings home a huge, pink, Alaskan pig named Julius! Whether Julius is sporting white underwear with hearts, joyfully swinging Maya around to a jazz tune, or unhappily submitting to a bath, his love for his friend shines as brightly as his glossy pink skin. We will discuss how people and animals work and play together.
Reminder: There is no school for students on October 14th and 18th.
This week, our theme was Apples! We talked about Johnny Appleseed and learned lots of interesting facts about him. We sampled 3 different kinds of apples and then graphed our favorites. Red Delicious and Granny Smith tied as the favorites of the class! Students labeled the parts of an apple and made a list of all the yummy treats we can make with apples! Finally on Friday, we used all the apples that our class brought in to make applesauce! Thank you to all the parents that sent in apples! We had a great week! Next week our theme will be fire prevention!
Please send your child’s $4.00 donation for the Fall Festival as soon as possible, if you haven’t done so already! The Fall Festival will be held on Thursday, October 17th. There will be a meeting for any parents, or grandparents that would like to help on Sunday, October 13th at 5:30 at the Mineshaft.
The Kindergarten Pajama party will be held on Wednesday, October 16th. There were several issues this week due to students telling their parents that the pajama party was this week. Any time that we are having a special day, I will send home several notes in advance. Kindergarteners tend to get confused about what day it is and what we are doing so please call or email me if you aren’t sure.
If you were not happy with your child’s school pictures or if your child was absent, retakes will be done on November 1st.
Some students still do not know their 4 digit numbers! These numbers are used for lunch, library, computer class, etc. It is very important that your child learn their number! Every child’s number is on the front of the folder. Please practice at home!
As the weather starts to get cooler please send your child to school with a coat. We go outside for recess every day (unless it’s raining) and some students have been complaining that they are cold. Also, please write your child’s name in their coat, sweaters, etc. Many Kindergarten students are having a hard time keeping track of their belongings.
Please check your child’s folder daily and remove all “Left at Home” items. It becomes difficult to handle the folders with too many papers inside (for the students and teachers.)
The School Store will open on October 21st. Kindergarteners may only shop on Mondays. Students do NOT come to the classroom before shopping so it’s important that you explain to your child where their money is and that they need to stop before coming to our room.
Don’t forget to return your child’s Library book on Tuesday so they can get a new book!
