This
week, we’ll continue to learn about the vowel Oo and its short sound, like in
octopus, otter, and owl. Please continue
to review L and O at home. Our whole
class is doing a great job with these 2 letters! I’m very proud of their hard work!
In
Math we’ll start to learn about shapes (circles and rectangles.) We’ll also work on graphing and position
words. Last week students worked really
hard on writing the number one and this week we’ll practice the number 2.
In
Reading, we’ll read the story, “Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip with
Kindergarten” and talk about how people in communities cooperate.
In honor of Johnny
Appleseed’s birthday (September 26th) our theme this week will be
apples! I’m asking that every student
bring in an apple by Friday. We’ll use
all of our apples to make applesauce!
Since the weather is getting cooler, please be sure to dress
your child properly. We go outside for
recess almost every day and some students have been complaining because they
don’t have a jacket or sweater. Also,
please be sure to write your child’s name in their coats, sweaters, book bags,
lunch bags, etc. Items are being lost
because Kindergarten students don’t know if it’s theirs. It makes things much easier if there is a
name on it.
Please send your child’s
$4.00 donation for the Fall Festival as soon as possible, if you haven’t done
so already! The money is needed to buy
supplies to make the day extra special for our Kindergarten students. The Fall Festival will be held on Thursday,
October 17th. There will be a
meeting for any parents, or grandparents that would like to help on Sunday,
October 13th at 5:30 at the Mineshaft.
If
you were not happy with your child’s school pictures or if your child was
absent, retakes will be done on November 1st.
Some
students are not doing homework. Please
be sure to complete your child’s homework EVERY night. Homework is given every night
(Monday-Thursday) unless something special is scheduled. I send a Homework Note every Monday so you
know what is expected for the week.
Also, please be sure to have your child write their name on their
homework. Some students are handing in
homework with no name.
Scholastic
book orders are due Friday, October 4th.
Some
students still do not know their 4 digit numbers! These numbers are used for lunch, library,
computer class, etc. It is very
important that your child learn their number!
Every child’s number is on the front of the folder. Please practice at home!
Please check your child’s folder daily
and remove all “Left at Home” items. It
becomes difficult to handle the folders with too many papers inside (for the
students and teachers.)
Don’t forget to return your child’s
Library book on Tuesday so they can get a new book!
