Kindergarten News: February 25- March 1

Next week in Phonics we will be learning about the consonant Vv and its sound as in vowel, violin, and valentine. Word List 12 will be tested however the list will not be sent home prior to the test. At this point in Kindergarten students should be able to read the words without practice. There will be no Show and Tell for the letter Vv.

In Reading, we’ll continue with Unit 4 and read “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” This version of the classic tale remains true to the original. Goldilocks arrives at the bears' house, eats their porridge, sits in their chairs, and falls asleep in baby bear's bed! We will be discussing adventures. Students will learn about characters. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home next week.

In Math we’ll be counting nickels up to $.50. Students will identify and order numbers and also comparing sets.

Congratulations to all of the students who completed and presented their Dinosaur reports. Everyone did a dino-mite job!

February is Dental Health Month! Please complete the toothbrush chart that was sent home in your child’s folder last week and return it at the end of the month. Students who return the chart will get a special treat!

We are trying to get students outside for recess as much as possible! Please be sure that your child has a warm jacket, gloves, and hat!

On Friday, March 1st, NSE will celebrate “Read Across America.” We will have students from Bloomsburg University visit our classroom to teach a lesson using the Dr. Seuss book, “My Many Colored Days.” In the afternoon Mrs. Kraft, a retired North Schuylkill Elementary teacher, will visit our classroom for another special Dr. Seuss lesson based on the book, “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.” We will be doing lots of Dr. Seuss activities all week and we’ll even have a few surprise guest readers!
