Kindergarten News: February 19-22

There is no school for students on Friday, February 15th and Monday, February 18th. Enjoy the long weekend with your child!

Next week in Phonics we will be learning about the consonant Dd and its sound as in dog, dentist, and dinosaur. Word List 12 will be tested next week however the list will not be sent home prior to the test. At this point in Kindergarten students should be able to read the words without practice. There will be no Show and Tell for the letter Dd but instead we’ll share Dinosaur reports! Please check your child’s folder for more information about the reports.

In Reading, we’ll continue with Unit 4 and read “One Little Mouse.” When one little mouse goes in search of a new place to sleep, what does he find? Two moles, three frogs, four quail, and a forest full of animals willing to open their hearts and homes to him. But like most travelers, this little mouse finds there is no place like home! We will be discussing animal adventures. Students will learn about consonant blends and sequence. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home next week.

In Math we’ll be counting nickels up to $.25. Students will learn about a new shape, cylinder. Finally we’ll practice ABC patterns.

Students participated in “Jump Rope for Hearts” on Wednesday. It was a fun filled time for a great cause! Special thanks to Mrs. Smith and Ms. Brill for organizing the event!

Our Valentine’s Day party was held this afternoon and students had a fun time! They exchanged valentines, made a craft, and had a snack! Thank you to the parents who came to help with the party!

February is Dental Health Month! Please complete the toothbrush chart that was sent home in your child’s folder last week and return it at the end of the month. Students who return the chart will get a special treat!
