Kindergarten News: April 2-6

There will be NO homework this week or next week! Happy Easter! :)
Next week in Reading we will continue with Unit 5, Going Places.  We will begin reading the story On the Move!  (we won’t finish this story until after Easter vacation.)  We will discuss travel around the world.  Students will review the consonants v and z.  We will also talk about main idea.  In Phonics we will continue to learn about the consonant “Qq” and we’ll also start talking about long vowels.  The rule for long vowels is if the vowel is followed by anything other than a consonant then it is long (we code it with a macron.)  In Math, we’ll continue to practice using money (pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.)  After Easter vacation we’ll practice matching equivalent sets and identifying doubles.
On Tuesday, April 3rd, we will celebrate the day that the girls have been waiting for all year Queen Day!  Girls are invited wear “queen dresses” and the boys will wait on them all day (crowns will be provided for the queens.)
Also on Tuesday, April 3rd, we will celebrate the marriage of Q and U.  See your child’s folder for additional information.  Please note that as long as Kindergarten students are dressed in wedding or queen attire they do not have to follow the school dress code.  If they are not dressing for our special day then they should be in uniform.
Our Field Trip will be on Thursday, May 24th.  We will be attending the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus in Hershey at the Giant Center!

The Kindergarten Easter Egg hunt and party will be held on Wednesday April 4th.  Don’t forget school will be closed for Easter Break, April 5-11.  School will reopen on Thursday, April 12 and it will be Day 4 (gym.)
