Next week in Reading we will begin Unit 5, “Going Places.” We will be reading the story “Max Takes the Train” and discussing different forms of transportation. Students will learn more about realism and fantasy. In Phonics we will be learning about the consonant “Jj” as in jar, jam, and jungle. Instead of show and tell each student will share a joke on Friday. Word List 13 will be tested Friday, March 9th (we didn’t have enough time for the test today due to Read Across America.) In Math, we’ll identify hot and cold objects and solve a problem by drawing a picture. We’ll also practice ABBC Patterns with pattern blocks. Students will continue to practice dividing by sharing, comparing numbers, and right and left.
This week we celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss and “Read Across America.” We read many Dr. Seuss books and completed activities related to the books. Miss Smith and Miss Brobst read lots of books to the class and we also had a couple guest readers! A big thank you to our favorite substitute teacher, Ms Hughes for reading “And To Think That We Saw It On Mulberry Street,” to our favorite 2nd grade teacher Ms Ressler for bringing her students to come read to us and also to our favorite baseball and basketball coaches, Mr. Brayford and Mr. Wartman, for reading "The Foot Book" and "Mr. Brown Can Moo!" This morning we had Bloomsburg University students teach a lesson using the Dr. Seuss books “Oh the Thinks You Can Think” and “Mr. Brown Can Moo.” After completing fun activities with the Bloomsburg students, Miss Smith made the class breakfast…Green Eggs and Ham! Some students were brave enough to try them while others passed. After recess, Mrs. Kraft, a retired North Schuylkill Elementary teacher, came to visit and read another Dr. Seuss classic, “The Sneetches!” After lunch we read “Bartholomew and the Oobleck” and made our own oobleck! It was a “Seusstastic” week!
Next week is Newspaper in Education week and we will be doing several activities with the newspaper. “I’m A Reader” contracts are being sent home today and should be returned Monday, March 12th. Also be sure to watch the Pottsville Republican’s classified ads for a special ad from Miss Smith and Miss Brobst!
Don’t forget to return tooth brushing charts if you haven’t done so already!
Kindergarten Graduation pictures will be taken at the end of March. All students need to wear a white collared shirt for pictures!
