October 10-14, 2016

Academics
In Reading, we’ll move on to our final story in Unit 1, Dig, Dig, Digging!  In this story, Trucks and tractors, fire engines and helicopters-they all like to work hard. But after a long, happy day of beep-beeping and vroom-vrooming, even the busiest engines need to rest. We will review the literary element classify and categorize.  In Phonics, we’ll focus on the letter Tt and the /t/ sound in the initial and final position.

In Math, we’ll begin Topic 16: Analyze, Compare and Compose Shapes.  We will learn positional words to describe the location of shapes.  Our big question will be how can shapes be named, described, compared and composed.

Our theme next week will be fire prevention!  Fire Prevention week is celebrated nationally October 10-14.  There are many activities planned to teach the students about fire safety. Don’t forget to ask your child what they learned!
