September 5-9, 2016

Next week, in Reading, we’ll read the story “The Little School Bus.”  In this fun rhyming story a sleepy sheep, a squirmy worm, a hairy bear, a quick chick, a fox with socks, a pig in a wig, and a goat in his coat ride the bus to school!  We will discuss the story element character.  In Phonics, we’ll introduce the letters Aa-Ee.  We’ll also start to learn about rhyming!  We’ll also focus on the sight words I and am.

In Math, we’ll be learning about shapes!  We’ll focus on naming and describing them.

Our class had a TERRIFIC time at the pep rally today!  I am so proud of their behavior.  It’s great to see that they are proud to be Spartans!!!!  Good luck tonight to the football team as they take on the Steelton Steamrollers!

The school store will open next week, however Kindergarten students may only shop on Mondays so they’ll have to wait until the following week (September 12th.)  If your child needs school supplies and needs to shop, please put their money in an envelope labeled “School Store.”

Your child brought home their first book in their “Read Every Day” envelope this week!  This book should be read every night for a week.  After you and your child read the book, please complete the reading log that is inside the envelope.  Feel free to log any other books that your child reads at home during the month (this can also be a story that you read to them!)  The goal in Kindergarten is for students to read and log 15 months a book.  Small prizes will be given to students who meet the goal monthly.  There will also be large prizes given away at the end of the school year for students who meet the goal all year.

Book orders are coming home today!  This is completely optional.  If you’re in interested in purchasing books for your child, please return completed order forms or submit your order online by Friday, September 9th.

“All About Me” bags are also coming home today.  The date that your child’s bag is due is written on the bag.  They will show the contents of their bag to their classmates and then bring everything home that same day.

I would like to thank everyone for making this week such a huge success!
     • All first day forms were returned promptly!
     • Students are learning their ID numbers quickly!
     • Students are also learning their bus numbers!
     • Everyone is trying their best to follow the school rules!
     • Almost everyone has been bringing snack!

A few tips:
     • Please put your child’s ID number on their lunch money.  It makes things easier for our cafeteria ladies.
     • The red North Schuylkill folder that you received at Meet the Teacher is yours to keep at home.  Your child does not need to bring them to school.  The only folder they need to bring is their communication folder.

It was a REALLY awesome week!  I hope that your child enjoyed their first week as much as I did and are looking forward to returning to school on Tuesday!!!!

There is no school on Monday, September 5th
