This week, we’ll start learning the letter Gg, as in goat, golf, and gold! Show and Tell bags will be sent home and are due on Friday. Please review identifying the letters L, O, and G at home, along with their sounds.
In Math we’ll finish learning about shapes (circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares.) Our essential question will be “How can shapes be named and described?”
In Reading, we’ll finish up last week’s reading story, “We Are So Proud.” Our essential question will be “How do school children work and play together?” We will discuss the literary element, setting. We will continue to practice Sight Words. Be sure to watch your child’s folder to see if they are moving on to the next word list or if they need to continue with their current list! Sight Words will be tested again on Friday, October 9th.
Our theme last week was Apples! We talked about Johnny Appleseed and learned lots of interesting facts about him. We sampled 3 different kinds of apples and then graphed our favorites! We also sampled apples with caramel and apple cider! On Friday we used all the apples that our class brought in to make applesauce! Thank you to all the parents that sent in apples!
This week our theme will be fire prevention! Fire Prevention week is celebrated nationally October 4-10. There are many activities planned to teach the students about fire safety. Don’t forget to ask your child what they learned!
The School Store opened last week. Kindergarteners may only shop on Mondays. Students do NOT come to the classroom before shopping so it’s important that you explain to your child where their money is and that they need to stop before coming to our room. Most items are priced from .25 to $2, at the most.
Some students still do not know their 4 digit numbers! These numbers are used for lunch, library, computer class, etc. It is very important that your child learn their number! Every child’s number is on the front of the folder. Please practice at home!
October Reading logs were sent home on Thursday. Please remember that this is part of your child’s homework and should be completed every night! Any student who reads 15 or more books in a month receives a small prize and a punch on their AR card. Students who earn punches will also earn a chance to win a bike at the end of the year!
Now that the weather is getting cooler, please make sure that your child is dressing appropriate for outside recess!
School pictures will be taken on Tuesday, October 13th.
Students will participate in a “Shake Out Drill” on Thursday, October 15th. Students will practice how to do “Drop, Cover, and Hold.”
