September 21-25

This week, we’ll move on to our next letter, the vowel Oo! We’ll learn about its short sound, like in octopus, otter, and owl. Please review L and O at home. Show and Tell Bags for the letter Oo will be sent home. Please return it on Friday!

In Math we’ll continue to learn about shapes (circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares.) Our essential question will be “How can shapes be named and described?”

In Reading, we’ll finish reading the story, “The Little School Bus.” Our essential question will be “How do children get to school?” We will discuss the literary element, characters. We will continue to practice Sight Words. Be sure to watch your child’s folder to see if they are moving on to the next word list or if they need to continue with List 1! Sight Words will be tested again on Friday, September 25th.

On Friday, September 25th we’ll start learning about Johnny Appleseed! In honor of his birthday our theme will be apples, September 28-October 2nd. I’m asking that each child bring in 1 apple by Monday, September 28th! We’ll use all of the apples and work together to make applesauce on Friday, October 2nd.

The School Store opens on Monday, September 28th. Kindergarteners may only shop on Mondays. Students do NOT come to the classroom before shopping so it’s important that you explain to your child where their money is and that they need to stop before coming to our room. Most items are priced from .25 to $2, at the most.

Some students still do not know their 4 digit numbers! These numbers are used for lunch, library, computer class, etc. It is very important that your child learn their number! Every child’s number is on the front of the folder. Please practice at home!
