Kindergarten News: September 3-6

Next week, we’ll begin Phonics, and learn about the letter Ll as in lion, lemon, and laugh. Show and Tell bags will be sent home on Tuesday. They should be returned on Friday. On Thursday, September 5th, we’ll have a Luau to celebrate the letter L! Kindergarten students are invited to dress tropical (bright colors, floral prints, Hawaiian shirts, etc.) Kindergarteners do NOT need to follow the school dress code that day.

We’ll also begin Math next week. Students will explore some of the manipulatives that we’ll be using this year in Math. We’ll also be learning some fun songs to help us remember how to write numbers!

Our class had a TERRIFIC time at the pep rally today. I am so proud of their behavior. It’s great to see that they are proud to be Spartans!!!!

There is no school on Monday, September 2nd. Tuesday, September 3rd, will be Day 5 in the specials rotation. Our class will have Library.

Try to make sure your child has his/her bus tag every day. The end of the day is hectic and some children don’t know their bus numbers yet!

Every Friday of the school year is a spirit day! This is optional but it is done to promote school spirit and enthusiasm for our sports teams. Students are allowed to wear any North Schuylkill t-shirt and uniform pants or uniform shorts (please see p. 5 of the student dress code.) The children may dress in regular uniform clothing if you wish.

Please remember to pack a snack for your child daily. Students may bring something to eat and drink. If your child forgets their snack I do keep things on hand but I can’t supply snack every day. Due to the allergies please remind your child that we do NOT share food.

School pictures will be taken on Friday, September 6th. Order forms were sent home. Please return them as soon as possible.

Kindergartens tend to have accidents at school every now and then. They spill something or don’t make it to the bathroom in time and need a change of clothes. If you would like to send in a spare set of clothes for your child to let in their cubby (locker) please put the clothes in a bag and label it with your child’s name.
Also, we paint a lot and do other messy projects. If you would like to send in an old t shirt for your child to put over their clothes when we are working on art projects put it in a separate bag and label it art shirt.

Keep practicing the 4 digit ID numbers with your child. Thank you to the parents who have already taught the number to their children :)

We had a fabulous first week of school and I am thrilled to have your child in my class! I hope that he/she enjoyed their first week as much as I did and are looking forward to returning to school on Tuesday!!!!

Announcements, newsletters, and homework are posted on my blog weekly. I also try to include pictures of some of the fun things we are working on in school. You can visit my blog by going to www.northschuylkill.net, click on “Homework Helpline” on the left hand side under “Elementary,” and finally select Smith, J.

Please check your child’s folder daily and remove all “KEEP” items. It becomes difficult to handle the folders with too many papers inside (for the students and teachers.)
