Kindergarten News: April 3-5

In Phonics, we will finish learning about the letter Q and begin long vowels. The rule for long vowels is if the vowel is followed by anything other than a consonant then it is long (we code it with a macron.) On Friday, April 5th students are formally invited to attend the wedding of Q and U! Invitations will follow! Friday, April 5th we will celebrate the day that the girls have been waiting for all year, “Queen Day!” Girls are invited to wear their fanciest queen dress! Crowns will be provided!

Next week in Reading, we’ll read Messenger, Messenger. In this story, Calvin Curbhopper leaves his studio apartment with his bike on his shoulder. By eight a.m., he's made his first delivery and embarked on a crazy routine of carrying urgent business packages through traffic, tunnels, parking lots and dangerous neighborhoods. He doesn't slow down until after nightfall, when he rides home. We will discuss transportation jobs. Students will learn about comparing and contrasting. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home next week.

In Math students will identify and match equivalent sets, and identify doubles. Students will also practice “some, some more” problems. Please practice identification of pennies, nickels, and dimes, along with their values, at home. A lot of students are struggling with this concept. We also introduce the quarter this week.

Kindergarten Graduation pictures will be taken Thursday, April 4th. All students must wear a white collared shirt and girls need to wear their hair down. Every student will have their picture taken even if you are not purchasing a package.

Report cards are in your child’s folder today. Please sign the envelope and return it with all of its contents after Easter break.

Students enjoyed an Easter Egg hunt today on the playground! Don’t forget there is no school for students Friday, March 29th, - Tuesday, April 2nd due to the Easter holiday.

Our Field Trip will be on Thursday, May 23rd. We will be attending the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus in Hershey at the Giant Center!

Happy Easter!!! Enjoy the time with your child!
