Academics
In Reading, we’ll continue with Unit 2, Look at Us!  Our next story will be an animal fantasy, Bear Snores On.  In this story, a whole host of different animals and birds find their way out of the cold and into Bear's cave to warm up. But even after the tea has been brewed and the corn has been popped, Bear just snores on!  Finally, Bear wakes up and finds his cave full of uninvited guests—all of them having a party without him!  In Phonics, we will focus on the letter Cc in the initial and final position of words.  Our literary skill for the week will be realism and fantasy.

In Math, we’ll finish Topic 1: One- Five and begin Topic 2: Comparing and Ordering 0-5.    Students will learn how to compare and order numbers 0-5.  Please continue to practice writing numbers 1-5 at home.

We will be working on a few themes next week.  At the beginning of the week, we’ll be discussing the upcoming election.  Every student as NSE will have the opportunity to vote in a mock election on Monday!  We will discuss the candidates; however, we will focus more on being good citizen and voting in elections!

We will also be talking about community helpers and we have two fun activities planned!  Sherriff Joe Groody and the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s department will visit us on Thursday and fingerprint every Kindergarten student.  Students will bring home an ID card with their fingerprints.  On Friday, the Goodwill Fire Co, Frackville will visit us and teach us about fire safety!

Field Trip
The Kindergarten Field trip to see the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble present Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and then some) will be on Friday, December 1st.  Students are asked to wear a polo and dress code approved bottoms or better!  This means that students may wear Christmas dresses, suits, etc (even if they aren’t dress code appropriate.)  Please remember that we are going to the theatre and we will be representing North Schuylkill.  Students should not wear gym clothes on the field trip.

Weather/ Coats
The weather is quickly changing and the days are getting colder!  Please make sure that your child is coming to school dressed for the weather.  Please reinforce at home that it is no longer warm outside and that coats are a must!  I’ve had several students insisting that they don’t need to wear coats this week!  As the weather gets even colder, feel free to send in a spare hat and gloves for your child to leave in their locker in case they forget theirs at home.  Also, don’t forget that students may not wear shorts to school.

Feed a Friend
The NS Student Council is sponsoring the Feed-A-Friend campaign in our school district.  The campaign will continue until Wednesday, November 16th.  We are collecting both non-perishable food and monetary donations to help less fortunate people in Schuylkill County enjoy a holiday dinner.  Student Council representatives will be taking our donations to the Salvation Army in Pottsville on Thursday.  I’m asking that every student in our class bring in 1 item to donate.  My goal is to teach students about giving and helping others.
