Kindergarten News: October 8-12

Next week in Phonics, we will continue to learn about the letter “Pp” as in pig, pancake, and popcorn! On Friday, October 12th Kindergarten will have a Pajama party to celebrate the letter “Pp.” Kindergarten students are invited to wear their pajamas to school but please, NO slippers! Students will participate in several activities to reinforce the letter “Pp.” We will also have Show and Tell for the letter P on Friday.

This week in Reading we read Dig, Dig, Digging. We learned that trucks, tractors, fire engines and helicopters all work very hard! But, after a long, happy day of beep-beeping and vroom-vrooming, even the hardest working machines need to rest. We will continue to read this story next week and discuss how machines help people along with categorizing and classifying.

In Math we will learn about ordinal positions and also use pattern blocks to cover designs.

Our class had a great time today showing their school spirit at the homecoming pep rally! The Spartans will take on the Tamaqua Blue Raiders tonight at 7:00 pm in Spartan Stadium! The Spartan Football team, Cheerleaders and Halftime Club will recognize October as Breast Cancer Awareness month during the game. The Spartans will be hosting a fundraiser to benefit a very special woman so please try to come out and support a great cause!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our theme this week was Fire Safety. We did many activities to teach the students about fire safety. Due to the weather we didn’t get to see a Fire Truck but hopefully we’ll get to reschedule! Don’t forget to ask your child what he/she has learned!

Thursday, October 11th is the Kindergarten Fall Festival. Students are allowed to dress in “gym clothes” even if they don’t have Gym on Thursday. Please remember that we’ll be spending the day outside (unless it rains) so dress your child for the weather! If you haven’t sent in your Fall Festival money please do so immediately!!!!!

As the weather starts to get cooler please send your child to school with a coat. We go outside for recess everyday (unless it’s raining) and some students have been complaining that they are cold on cooler days. Also, please write your child’s name in their coat. Many Kindergarten students are having a hard time keeping track of their coats.

Kindergarteners may only shop at the School Store on Mondays. Students do NOT come to the classroom before shopping so it’s important that you explain to your child where their money is and that they need to stop before coming to our room.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and in an effort to promote awareness students are invited to wear pink every Thursday during the month of October! Please note that students are allowed to wear Spartan t-shirts, even though it’s not gym day, as long as they are pink!

PTO will be selling pink bracelets at the school store for $2. The proceeds of this sale will benefit one of our NSE teachers who is battling breast cancer. If you would like to purchase bracelets please send the money in an envelope with your child’s name, the amount, and “bracelets.” Your support of this cause is greatly appreciated!
