Kindergarten News

We have finished the 2nd week of Kindergarten and the students are adjusting very well!

Announcements, newsletters, and homework are posted on my blog weekly.  I also try to include pictures of some of the fun things we are working on in school.  You can visit my blog by going to www.northschuylkill.net, click on “Homework Helpline” on the left hand side under “Elementary,” and finally select Smith, J.

This week in Reading we read Fix It Duck.  The class really enjoyed this story about Fix It Duck who really can’t fix much of anything! Next week we will be reading Plaidypus Lost.  Watch for your Family Times newsletter to come home on Monday with details about the story and skills we will be working on in Reading.  We will add 2 new sight word flash cards to our envelopes next week too!

In Math we will be learning about patterns, shapes, graphs, positional words, and counting.  Kindergarten students should be able to count to 100 by the end of the year so please practice this skill at home.

This week we began a Science unit called Trees. We will observe and compare the trees around our school through the seasons.

Students are doing a great job with snack and lunch!  Thank you so much for all of your help!  We do have a peanut and chocolate allergy in our classroom so please remind your child that we do NOT share snacks.  Thank you!

On Tuesday, our class met their 4th grade reading buddies from Ms. Burda’s 4th grade class.  Reading buddies will visit our class every Tuesday and read to our class.

All about me books were sent home yesterday.  This book will help students get to know each other better.  Please complete this book with your child and return it to school by the due date. Be creative when completing this project, use pictures, stickers, markers, etc.

Please be sure to encourage your child to write their name the proper way.   Students should not write their name in all capitals.  I understand that some students need practice writing it the correct way but the first step in helping is making sure we are consistent at home and at school.

There has been a change made with the book fair schedule.  Instead of the book fair taking place throughout the entire week of September 10th-14th, students will have a preview on Monday, September 10th.  Students will NOT be able to purchase books during the preview.  Instead students will have the opportunity to shop at the evening sale which will run from 4:00-7:00 P.M. that same evening in the gymnasium.

Book orders were sent home at Meet the Teacher.  Orders are due by Friday, September 14th

Please check your child’s folder daily and remove all “KEEP” items.  It becomes difficult to handle the folders with too many papers inside (for the students and teachers.)
