This week was an
exciting week in Phonics… we read
our first word! All of the students were so surprised that
they can read all by themselves! In the
upcoming week we will be learning the consonant “Hh” as in hat, hippo, and horse.
We will have “Hat Day” on Friday, September 21st. Students are asked to wear a favorite hat, a funny hat, or even a homemade
hat!
This week in Reading we read the story “Plaidypus Lost” about a little girl who
can’t seem to keep track of her favorite stuffed animal. Next week we’ll read “Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip with Kindergarten.” We will be discussing people in
communities. Students will be learning
about classifying and categorizing.
Please review your “Family Times” when it comes home on Monday for more
details.
In Math we will practice patterns and also
sorting items by color. Students will continue
to practice numbers and will even count
to 100 by 1’s.
Please
check your child’s folder daily and remove all “KEEP” items. It becomes difficult to handle the folders
with too many papers inside (both for the students and teacher.)
Some
students are having a very hard time cutting. Please save the coupons from the newspaper and have students practice cutting on
the dotted line.
Please continue to have
your child practice zippers and buttons!
Please
be sure to put names on all coats, backpacks, and lunchboxes! Students are misplacing things at breakfast
and on the playground. It’s hard to get
items returned to their owner when there isn’t a name on it.
Announcements,
newsletters, and homework are posted on my blog weekly. I also try to include pictures of some of the
fun things we are working on in school.
You can visit my blog by going to www.northschuylkill.net, click on “Homework Helpline”
on the left hand side under “Elementary,” and finally select Smith, J.
Due
to a conflict in schedules, our class will have Reading Buddies on Fridays
not Tuesdays.
All about me books were sent home last
week. This book will help students get
to know each other better. Please complete this book with your child and
return it to school by the due date. Be
creative when completing this project, use pictures, stickers, markers,
etc. Please be sure to return your
child’s book by the due date.
Kindergarteners get very upset when it’s their day to share and they
don’t have it.
On Tuesday, we will have our first Guidance lesson with our Guidance
Counselor Mrs. Hull.
Thursday, September 20th
there will be a meeting for any parents or grandparents interested in helping
at the Fall Festival. The meeting will be held at the pavilion
behind North Schuylkill Elementary at 6:30.
Specials Schedule:
Monday: Library Tuesday: Computers Wednesday:
Art
Thursday: Music Friday: Gym
