Kindergarten Newsletter: September 4-7

**Our class had a TERRIFIC time at the pep rally.  I am so proud of the way everyone behaved.  It’s great to see that they are proud to be Spartans!!!!

**There will be no school on Monday due to the Labor Day holiday.  Enjoy the long weekend!

**Tuesday, September 4th will be Day 1 and we will have Computers.

**This week, in Phonics, we learned the letter Ll as in lion, lemonade, and lizard.  Next week our letter will be “O” as in octopus.  Show and tell for the letter “O” will be on Friday.  Please practice the letters L and O at home.

**We also started math this week and everyone really enjoyed it!  The class’ favorite part of the lesson is learning the song that we sing to practice the correct way to write numbers.  Ask your child to sing the song for you!

**In Reading, we read the book “The Little School Bus” and discussed characters.  We also learned 6 amazing words: first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth.  Next week we’ll read the story “Fix It Duck” and discuss setting.  We’ll also continue to practice our sight words: I, am.  Please note that your child has an envelope of sight word flash cards in the sleeve of their folder.  These sight words should be practiced every night but the envelope should stay in your child’s folder because we will be adding flash cards frequently.

**Please note the prices of breakfast and lunch:
Regular Breakfast: $1.15                 Reduced Breakfast: $.30
Regular Lunch: $1.85                      Reduced Lunch: $.40

**Try to make sure your child has his/her bus tag every day.  The end of the day is hectic and some children don’t know their bus numbers yet!

**Every Friday of the school year is a spirit day!  This is optional but it is done to promote school spirit and enthusiasm for our sports teams.  Students are allowed to wear any North Schuylkill t-shirt and uniform pants or uniform shorts (please see p. 5 of the student dress code.)  The children may dress in regular uniform clothing if you wish.

**Please remember to pack a snack for your child daily.  Students may bring something to eat and drink.  If your child forgets their snack I do keep things on hand but I can’t supply snack every day.  We have a peanut butter allergy and a chocolate allergy in our classroom.  Due to the allergies please remind your child that we do NOT share food.

**School pictures will be taken on Friday, September 7th.

**Our class will shop at the Scholastic Book Fair on Wednesday, September 12th.  More information will be sent home.

**Book orders were sent home at Meet the Teacher.  Orders are due by Friday, September 14th

**Kindergartens tend to have accidents at school every now and then.  They spill something or don’t make it to the bathroom in time and they need a change of clothes.  If you would like to send in a spare set of clothes for your child to let in their cubby (locker) please put the clothes in a bag and label it with your child’s name.  Also, we paint a lot and do other messy projects.  If you would like to send in an old t shirt for your child to put over their clothes when we are working on art projects put it in a separate bag and label it art shirt.

**We had a fabulous first week of Kindergarten and I am thrilled to have your child in my class!  I hope that he/she enjoyed their first week as much as I did and are looking forward to returning to school on Tuesday!!!!
