Kindergarten News: May 23-27

Next week in Reading we will complete Unit 6, Building our Homes.  We will be reading The House That Tony Lives In and Animal Homes.  

We have completed our Phonics lessons for the year.  Today students were tested on Word List 24 and this will be the final Word List for the year. 

There will be NO HOMEWORK for the remainder of the school year J

Kindergarten Graduation will be held at 6:30 on Monday, May 23^rd in the High School Auditorium. Please be sure that your child has on a WHITE COLLARED shirt! 

Our Field Trip will be on Thursday, May 26^th.  We will be attending the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus in Hershey at the Giant Center! 

Friday, May 27^th is our school carnival.  Please be sure to dress your child to spend the day outside (if it rains the carnival will be inside.)  If it’s sunny please make sure that your child has on sunscreen!

Kindergarten News: May 16-20

Next week in Reading we will continue with Unit 6, Building our Homes.  Next week we will be reading Building Beavers and Night Workers.   We will discuss how animals build and the literary element main idea. 

In Phonics we will be learning 3 new digraphs: ar, or, and er as in star, horse, and butter.
    

We will finish our last 4 lessons in Math next week.  We will discuss measuring using an inch, halves and fourths, and pictographs.  Please continue to practice counting by 2s at home with your child! 

Students enjoyed “Kick Butts Day” and had a great time playing with high school students who are members of Teens Against Tobacco.  We got to go to the baseball field and learn about why smoking and tobacco use is a bad choice!

Kindergarten News: May 9-13

Next week in Reading we will begin Unit 6, Building our Homes. In order to finish the unit we will be reading 2 stories a week. Next week we will be reading Homes around the World, and Old McDonald had a Woodshop. We will discuss comparing and contrasting and characters.

In Phonics we will be learning 2 new digraphs: ch and ee as in cheese and sheep. Just a reminder: I am NO LONGER sending home the word list prior to the test. I will be assessing students on their ability to decode and blend the words using their phonics skills with no practice.

In Math we will continue to act out and draw “Some, Some went away” stories. We will also talk about symmetry.

Next week high school students will come to NSE for “Kick Butts Day.” We will go to the baseball field and learn about why smoking and tobacco use is a bad choice!
