Kindergarten News: April 18-21, 2011

Next week in Reading we will continue with Unit 5, Going Places. We will be reading the story The Little Engine That Could! and discussing how trains move. Students will review the vowel Uu and the story element plot.

In Phonics we will be learning about the digraph th as in thimble and feather . A digraph is 2 letters that come together to make one sound. We code digraphs by underlining them. I am EXTREMLY happy with how well the students did on Word List 19 last week. Just a reminder: I am NO LONGER sending home the word list prior to the test. I will be assessing students’ on their ability to decode and blend the words using their phonics skills with no practice.

In Math, we will be identifying and matching equivalent sets. We will also discuss doubles. Students will continue to act out “some, some more problems.”

Reminder: The school store is open to Kindergarten students on Mondays!
