Kindergarten News: March 7-11

Next week in Reading we will continue Unit 4 Let’s Explore. We will be reading the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We will continue to discuss adventures. Students will review the consonant Gg and the literary element, character.

In Phonics we will be learning about the consonant “Jj” as in jar, jam, and jungle. Instead of show and tell each student will share a joke on Thursday. Please write the joke on a piece of paper so I can help them if they forget it. Word List 15 will be tested Friday, March 11th.

In math, we will continue to work on measuring. We will also be practicing ABC patterns and counting by 5’s.

Next week we will begin our last Science unit, “Animals Two by Two.” Our first investigation will focus on our new class pets; goldfish and guppies.

Next week is Newspaper in Education week and we will be doing several activities with the newspaper. “I’m A Reader” contracts are being sent home today and should be returned Monday, March 14th. Also be sure to watch the Pottsville Republican’s classified ads for a special ad!

Today we celebrated “Read Across America.” In the morning we had Bloomsburg University students visit our classroom and teach a lesson using the Dr. Seuss book “Ten Apples Up On Top.” Then we heard “Thidwick, The Big Hearted Moose” read by Miss Smith’s sister in New Jersey via Skype. Mrs. Kraft, a retired North Schuylkill Elementary teacher, came to visit and read another Dr. Seuss classic. Our reading buddies’ teacher, Mr. Glessner, and our local postman, Eric Hughes, read us “The Foot Book.” We finished off the day by hearing “Oh the Thinks You Can Think,” read by Miss T.’s sister. It was a “Seusstastic” day!
