Kindergarten News: February 7-11, 2011

Next week in Reading we will finish Unit 3, and read the story Hide Clyde! We will be discussing changing for protection. Students will learn about the short sounds of the vowel “o” and main idea.

In Phonics we will be learning about the short sound of the vowel “Ee” as in egg, elephant, and excellent. Word List 11 will come home today and be tested Friday, February 11th.

In math, we will continue to work on identifying numbers and will focus on numbers 0-20.

We will continue with our Science unit on Wood and Paper. This week we will continue to learn about the properties of wood and how to use those properties to change wood.

February 7-11 is bully prevention week. Here is the schedule for the week:
Monday: Students wear crazy socks… Don’t knock it, sock it!
Tuesday: Students wear a hat…Hats off for no bullying!
Diane Buhl from Pennsylvania Dept of Agriculture will speak about being kind to animals.
Wednesday: Students wear mismatched clothes or crazy hair… Mix it up day!
Thursday: Kindergarten students wear green…Rainbow of friendship!
Sheriff Groody will speak to students about the consequences of bullying behaviors.
Friday: Wear a Spartan’s shirt… Be a good sport!

Our Valentine’s Day party will be held on Monday, February 14th from 2:00-3:00. We will be having a snack, playing a game, and making a craft. Students are also invited to share valentines with their classmates. Feel free to send them to school any day next week. Also, if you haven’t sent in your child’s party money please do so as soon as possible.
