Kindergarten News: November 1-5, 2010

Next week in reading we will begin a new unit called “Animals Live Here.” The first story we will read is “Life in an Ocean.” We will discuss ocean environments. We will focus on the vowel “Aa” along with comparing and contrasting. Students will learn 2 new sight words: have, is. Please be sure that your child’s sight word flash cards are in their folder sometime next week so can add these new words.

In Phonics will we will be studying the consonant “Nn” as in nest, night, and necklace. Please practice the Phonics word list that is coming home today with your child. It will be tested next Friday, November 5th.

We will be focusing on ordering the numbers 1-10 in Math next week. We will continue to practice ordinal numbers, and counting to 100. Please remember that counting to 100 is a skill that Kindergarten students should master in Kindergarten.

Please remember that we have Library on Wednesdays. Students need to bring back their Library book every Wednesday if they want to exchange if for a new one.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held November 2nd. Due to conference being one night I will meet with some parents and Miss Tenaglia will meet with the rest. If we are both available then we will both attend. Just a reminder we are in Room 235. 

Kindergarteners had a “spooktacular” time at our Halloween party! Thank you to all the families that sent in a treat for their child to share with the class. They really enjoyed it!

Everyone enjoyed our Webcast with Taylor Swift on Wednesday. Some students were a little disappointed because they thought Taylor was going to be in our classroom. When I registered for the webcast I had to submit a question that could possibly be asked to Taylor during the interview. The question our class picked was “What was your favorite book in Elementary school?” To our great surprise our question was selected and Taylor’s answer was “anything by Dr. Seuss.”

Book orders are Due Friday, November 12th!

Don’t forget Tuesday is Election Day!!!
