Kindergarten News: December 23

Santa surprised our class and visited our classroom on Wednesday morning! A BIG thank you to Miss Kraft for taking all these great pictures!

Kindergarten News: December 19-23

Next week in Reading we will finish our story from last week, See How We Grow.  We will continue to discuss how children change as they grow.  We will also talk more about cause and effect.  In Phonics we will also finish learning about the consonant “Rr” as in rabbit, rat, and reindeer!  Word List 7 will come home after the holidays.  In Math we’ll practice counting by 10s and estimating.  We’ll also introduce the dime.  
There will be NO homework next week!  Merry Christmas!
  
 Santa visited our classroom this week and gave every student a candy cane!  He told the students he would leave a special present in our classroom for them and to our great surprise there was a present under our class Christmas tree this morning!  After reading the directions on the top we opened the present and found a letter from Santa for each student!  The letters are coming home in folders today to be read at home ;)
Thank you to all of the parents that attended the K-2 Christmas Concert on Monday.  Our students were so excited to see so many people there to cheer them on!  A big congratulations to all of our students for singing their hearts out!  
Wednesday, December 21st we will travel to the high school to see the NSHS Band and Chorus perform their Christmas concert.  
On December 22nd, we will be celebrating the story the “The Polar Express.”  Kindergarten students are invited to dress like the characters of the story by wearing their pajamas to school.  We will have hot chocolate, cookies, make crafts, and read the book “The Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg. 
December 23rd is an early dismissal for students (11:45.)

Kindergarten News: December 12-16

Next week in Reading we will continue with Unit 3, and read the story See How We Grow.  We will be discussing children changing as they grow.  Students will learn about cause and effect.  In Phonics we will be learning the consonant “Rr” as in rabbit, rat, and reindeer!  Word List 6 is coming home today and will be tested on Friday, December 16th.  This will be our last Word List until after Christmas.  In Math we’ll learn a new shape called a cube and also practice more with Geoboards.
       
 Our local postman (Eric Hughes) and one of Santa’s elves (Danielle Laurusevage) visited our classroom to collect our letters to Santa today!  Each student was given a special seal to make sure that the letters make it to the North Pole!  ***Please watch your child’s folder for a letter FROM Santa next week!

Family and Friends are invited to attend the K-2 Christmas Concert which will be held Monday, December 12th at 9:30 in the North Schuylkill High School Auditorium.  School dress code or nicer may be worn but NO spirit or gym cloths!

Kindergarten News: December 5-9


Next week in Reading we will continue with Unit 3, Watch Me Change and read the story Little Quack.  We will be discussing doing new things.  Students will learn about the literary element plot.  Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home on Monday.  There are LOTS of great activities for you to do with your child!  In Phonics we will be learning the consonant “Ff” as in fish, flower, and fun!  Everybody is really trying their best on the word lists and we are proud of the progress that they are making!  Word List 5 is coming home today and will be tested on Friday, December 9th.  In Math, we will continue to learn about patterns, sorting, graphing, and ordinal numbers. 

December book orders are due Friday, December 9th!

School Store is CLOSED until January due to Santa’s Workshop. 

Family and Friends are invited to attend the Christmas Concert which will be held Monday, December 12th at 9:30 in the North Schuylkill High School Auditorium.  Kindergarteners have been practicing their songs and are very excited to share them with you!  Please note that students should dress according to the dress code or in their holiday best!  Gym or spirit clothes are NOT allowed! 
    
Please be sure to return your child’s letter to Santa if you haven’t done so already.  On Friday, December 9th, local Postman, Eric Hughes, will pick up our letters to Santa and deliver them straight to the North Pole!
