Kindergarten News: October 31- November 4

Next week in Reading we will continue our new unit, “Animals Live Here” with the story, Bear Snores On.  We will discuss reality and fantasy.  In Phonics, we’ll learn the letter Nn as in nest, nap, and necklace.  Please practice the Phonics word list that is coming home today with your child.  It will be tested next Friday, November 4th.  Students will be introduced to the penny in Math.  We will also continue to work with shapes and numbers 0-10.
 

A big thank you to the parents who came in to help at the Halloween Party and Parade!  We would also like to thank all the parents that sent in Halloween treats for the class.  Finally we would like to thank you all the parents who came to watch the Halloween Parade. Our students were so excited to see so many people who they knew!   
 

On Thursday, November 11th we will be having our Guidance Lesson on Personal Body Safety with Mrs. Clarissa Geary. 
 

This week we were able to Skype with our computer teacher Miss Kraft in Africa!  Please ask your child about this fun learning opportunity!  We will try to Skype Miss Kraft again next week!

Parent teacher conferences are Tuesday, November 1.  If you requested a conference and did not receive a time please let us know as soon as possible! In order to accommodate everyone conference will only be about 5 minutes!  

Since the weather is getting cooler, please have your child practice putting their coats on themselves and zipping/ buttoning them.  Thank you!

Reminders:  Friday is the Halloween Party!  Students need to bring their costume to school in a bag labeled with their name.  Students will get dressed at 1:45 with the help of teachers and homeroom helpers.  The parade will begin at 2:15 in the bus loop in front of the school.  Kindergarten will be at the end of the parade this year.  All are invited to attend the parade!   

Kindergarten News: October 24-28

Next week in Reading we will continue the unit, “Animals Live Here.  We are going to be reading the story Animal Babies in Grasslands and will talk about grassland animals.  We will focus on the story element main idea.  There will also be 3 new sight words next week (we, my, like.)  Please send in your child’s sight word flash cards so we can add the new words.  If their flash cards are not in their folder we will put the new cards the sleeve of their folder.  We will begin testing for report cards next week so we will not start a new letter in Phonics.  In Math we will identify numbers and put them in order.  Students will also be introduced to their first coin, the penny.
  
Kindergarten students had a fantastic time at the Fall Festival on Thursday.  A HUGE thank you to all of the volunteers who made this day so great for the kids!
Kindergarteners also did a great job this morning at the School Walk for Diabetes for Make a Difference Day at Spartan Stadium.
On Monday we had a program on drugs and alcohol with Diane Rowland.  The class was on their best behavior and now they understand what Red Ribbon Week is all about!  Next week we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week.  Please see the pink paper that is in your child’s folder today for more information.
    
Friday, October 29th is the Halloween Party and Parade.  Students are invited to bring their costume to school in a bag marked with their name.  They will change into their costume before the parade with the help of teachers and homeroom parents.  Please keep in mind that we have 25 students to get dressed in a short amount of time so please keep the costumes simple (no spraying hair, full face makeup, etc.)  Family and Friends are invited to come see our Halloween Parade at 2:15 on Friday.  The parade will take place in the bus loop in front of the school.

Kindergarten News: October 17-21

We had a fantastic time at our Pajama party today!  The class got to participate in lots of “Pp” activities.  It was definitely a PERFECT day!  Next week we will be learning about the letter “Aa” as in apple, alligator, and astronaut.Next week in reading we will continue our new unit, “Animals Live Here” with the story “Armadillo’s Orange.” We will discuss the setting of the story.  In Math we will practice ordering numbers and also learn ordinal positions up to fourth.


Don’t forget…Friday, October 21st is a half day for students!  Students are dismissed at 11:45.
 
Thursday, October 20th is the Kindergarten Fall Festival.  Students are allowed to dress in “gym clothes” even if they don’t have Gym on Thursday.

Kindergarten News: October 10-14

Next week in reading we will begin Unit 2, “Animals Live Here.” The first story we will read is “Life in an Ocean.” We will discuss ocean environments. We will talk about the vowel “Aa” along with comparing and contrasting. Students will learn 2 new sight words: have, is. Please be sure that your child’s sight word flash cards are in their folder next week so we can add these new words. In phonics we will begin the letter “Pp” as in pig, pancake, and popcorn. On Friday, October 14th we will have a Pajama party to celebrate the letter “Pp.” Students are invited to wear their pajamas to school on Friday. Please, NO slippers! Students will participate in several activities to reinforce the letter “Pp.” In math we will discuss and compare triangles and squares. We will also practice AB patterns and sorting.

Monday, October 10th will be a school day for students! We will be making up the day we missed due to the flood. Monday’s lunch will be a hamburger or meatball hoagie.

The Kindergarten Fall Festival will be on Thursday, October 20th (NO RAINDATE.) Please send in your child’s Fall Festival money ($3) if you haven’t done so already. There will be a meeting for anyone interested in helping with the Fall Festival on Wednesday October 12th at the Mineshaft in Ashland.

Please remember that Kindergarten students may only shop at the school store on MONDAY morning before they come to class.

Our theme for the upcoming weeks will be Fire Safety. There are many activities planned to teach the students about fire safety. Don’t forget to ask your child what he/she has learned!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and in an effort to promote awareness students are invited to wear pink every Thursday during the month of October!

Monday is Day 4… Dress for Gym!
