Kindergarten News December 13-17, 2010

Next week we will finish the unit “Animals Live Here” and read the story Whose Garden Is It? We will be discussing gardens. Students will learn about realism, fantasy and the vowel Ii. Please be sure to check the sleeves of your child’s folder for new sight word flash cards. If your child doesn’t keep their flashcards in their folder, I slip the new cards in one of the sleeves for you to add at home. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home on Monday.

In phonics we will be learning the consonant “Rr” as in rabbit, rat, and reindeer! Word List 6 is coming home today and will be tested on Friday, December 17th. This will be our last Word List until after Christmas.

In math, we will continue to learn about patterns, sorting, graphing, and ordinal numbers.

Family and Friends are invited to attend the Christmas Concert which will be held Monday, December 13th at 9:30 in the North Schuylkill High School Auditorium. In the event of bad weather, the concert will be held Monday, December 20th.

On Thursday, December 16th, our local postman will visit our classroom to collect our letters to Santa! He will make sure that the letters make it to the North Pole before Christmas!

The NSE Band and Chorus Concert will be held on Thursday, December 16th at 7:00 in the North Schuylkill High School Auditorium. On Friday, December 17th, we will travel to the high school to watch the Band and Chorus perform their Christmas Concert.

On December 20th, we will be celebrating the story the “The Polar Express.” This date is TENTATIVE. Students are invited to dress like the characters of the story by wearing their pajamas to school. We will have hot chocolate, cookies, make crafts, and read the book “The Polar Express” by Chris Van Allsburg.

On Tuesday December 21st we will travel to the High School to see their students perform their Holiday concert.

Our class’ Christmas party will be held on Wednesday, December 22nd from 2:00-3:00. We will have a snack, play a game, and make a craft!

Kindergarten News: December 6-10, 2010

This week we will we continue our unit “Animals Live Here” and reading the story A Bed for the Winter. We will be discussing winter homes. Students will learn about sequencing and the vowel Ii. We will be adding 2 new sights words (he, for) so please be sure that your child’s sight word flash cards are in their folder next week. Please be sure to review your Family Times when it comes home on Monday. There are LOTS of great activities for you to do with your child!

In phonics we will be learning the consonant “Ff” as in fish, flower, and fun! Everybody is really trying their best on the word lists and I am proud of the progress that they are making! Word List 5 is coming home today and will be tested on Friday, December 10th.

In math, we will continue to learn about AB and ABB Patterns. Students will also have the opportunity to start working with Geoboards!

December book orders are due Friday, December 10th. If there is anything that “Santa” would like to purchase for a Christmas present please send me a note and I will send it home in a bag.

School Store is CLOSED until January due to Santa’s Workshop.

Family and Friends are invited to attend the Christmas Concert which will be held Monday, December 13th at 9:30 in the North Schuylkill High School Auditorium. Kindergarteners have been practicing their songs and are very excited to share them with you!

Santa’s Workshop is a chance for students to do Christmas shopping in school. Our day to shop was Wednesday but if you forgot to send in money please send with your child as soon as possible.

Please remember that we have Library on Wednesdays. Students need to bring back their Library book every Wednesday if they want to exchange it for a new one.
