Kindergarten News: October 11-15, 2010

* There is no school for students on Monday, October 11th and Tuesday, October 12th. Enjoy the long weekend!

*Next week, in reading we will begin the story Julius. Our class will discuss how people and animals work and play together. We will continue to discuss characters, settings, sequence, and classifying. There will be 2 new sight words: a, to. We will also talk about the letter Mm and the sound it makes.

* In math students will practice acting out story problems and identifying ordinal positions to fourth.

*We will not start a new letter in phonics next week due to the long weekend. Instead we will review the letters that we have learned so far: l o g h t

* Please continue to practice your child’s computer number with them. Mr. Vebrosky and I are very proud of the students who already have their numbers memorized. This is a HUGE helps and allows students to spend more time on the computer instead of waiting to be logged on.

* The Kindergarten Fall Festival will be on Thursday, October 14th (rain date, Friday, October 15th.) Students are permitted to wear “gym clothes” for the Fall Festival even if they do not have Gym. Please remember that the dress code is still in effect and jeans are NOT allowed.

*Help is still needed for the Fall Festival!! Set up will begin at 7:30 AM on Thursday! Even if you haven’t done anything to help with the Fall Festival preparations you can still help! Please contact Dana Oravitz at danao2@verizon.net or 874-2031 if you would like to volunteer to help! All volunteers MUST have clearances to help at the Fall Festival.

* As the weather starts to get cooler, I’m asking that you write your child’s name in their coat. Many Kindergarten students are having a hard time keeping track of their coats.

* If your child has a communication notebook and you would like to write a response to something that Miss Tenaglia wrote that day please feel free to write in the notebook. It’s very confusing when parents write in their child’s folder about something from their communication notebook. Miss Tenaglia writes and responds to the communication notebooks and I read and respond to notes in the folders.

* There are a couple students who still didn’t bring in their party money! Please remember to send in the $6 next week! We need the money to pay for supplies for the Fall Festival!
